Terms of Service

1. Definitions

• "Service": MapNews and all related features provided by Mapnews.app
• "User": anyone who agrees to these Terms and uses the Service
• "Content": text, photos, videos, comments, replies, messages, and other materials posted by Users

2. Eligibility (age)

Mapnews.app sets a worldwide minimum age of 16. Users under 16 may not register for or use the Service, regardless of any lower local statutory age (Korea 14, EU 13–16, US 13).

Mapnews.app verifies age via date of birth at sign-up. Accounts found in violation of the age policy may be deleted immediately.

Users must enter their true date of birth. All legal liability and consequences arising from entering false information rest solely with the user (and their legal guardian).

3. Accounts and security

• Provide accurate information at sign-up; you are responsible for all activity on your account.
• Keep your credentials (magic link, OAuth tokens) secure.
• Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access and reset your credentials.

4. Your Content and license grant

You retain ownership and copyright of all Content you post to the Service.

You grant Mapnews.app a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sub-licensable license to host, store, display, transmit, cache, distribute, index, and otherwise use such Content for the purpose of operating, promoting, and improving the Service.

When you delete Content, Mapnews.app will cease exercising this license within a reasonable period (copies already transmitted to other users or held in backups may persist for a limited time).

You warrant that your Content does not infringe any third-party rights (copyright, image, trademark, reputation), and you assume all legal responsibility for such infringement.

5. Prohibited conduct (community guidelines)

The following are strictly prohibited and may result in Content removal, account suspension, or legal action:

• Hate speech (race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, etc.), insults, defamation, threats, harassment
• Pornography, sexual exploitation, content harmful to minors
• Doxing — disclosing others' personal information without consent
• False information, fraud, phishing, malware distribution
• Spam, repetition flooding, macro/bot automated posting
• Unauthorized access, hacking, exploiting vulnerabilities, circumvention
• Impersonation or sign-up with falsified identity
• Content that violates law (copyright infringement, illegal trade, drug/weapon trafficking, etc.)
• Promotion of violence, self-harm, or terrorism

6. Reporting and enforcement

• Users can report posts or comments violating the guidelines.
• Following reports or our own monitoring, we may hide or remove Content and temporarily or permanently suspend accounts.
• Serious violations (illegal content, child sexual exploitation, etc.) may be reported to law enforcement.

7. Mapnews.app intellectual property

All intellectual-property rights in the Service itself (brand, logo, software, design, code, UI) belong to Mapnews.app or its licensors. Except for personal, non-commercial use of the Service, you may not copy, distribute, reverse-engineer, or create derivatives of our IP.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

• The Mapnews.app does not warrant the accuracy, reliability, or legality of User Content.
• The Mapnews.app is not obligated to intervene in disputes between Users or between Users and third parties.
• The Mapnews.app is not liable for service interruption or data loss caused by events beyond its reasonable control (force majeure, DDoS, ISP outages, third-party service failures including Supabase/Vercel/Cloudflare).
• The Service is provided "as is" without any express or implied warranties (including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose).

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Mapnews.app and its officers, employees, affiliates, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages (including loss of profits, data, or reputation) arising from the use of the Service. The Mapnews.app's aggregate liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim (or USD 100 for free users).

10. Changes to the Terms

• We may update these Terms due to legal or service changes.
• Changes will be notified in-app or by email.
• Material changes (those affecting your rights or obligations) will be notified at least 30 days before they take effect, and re-consent may be required.
• Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

11. Service changes and termination

• We may change or discontinue all or part of the Service at any time without prior notice (free-service characteristic).
• Where the Service is permanently discontinued, we will provide reasonable advance notice and an opportunity to export your data.

12. Dispute resolution (governing law and venue)

• Governing law: These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea, except where mandatory consumer-protection law of your country of residence applies.
• South Korean residents: courts located at Mapnews.app's principal office shall have initial jurisdiction.
• United States residents: any dispute arising under these Terms shall be resolved by binding individual arbitration under American Arbitration Association (AAA) rules. You waive any right to a class action or jury trial.
• EU/EEA residents: your rights under local consumer law and the jurisdiction of your local courts are preserved.
• Other countries: Mapnews.app's principal-office jurisdiction applies, subject to mandatory law.

13. Miscellaneous

• Severability: If any provision is invalid, the rest remains in effect.
• No waiver: Delay or partial exercise of a right is not a waiver.
• Entire agreement: These Terms together with the Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement and supersede prior agreements.
